Well it's getting cold in the mountains and the Aspen trees are turning gold. That can only mean one thing; snow is on the way. Actually there have been resorts all over the country reporting "White Gold" falling since mid September. Powder-hounds are busy getting their boards waxed up and their legs in shape. We got some great info in this fall on some pretty cool new stuff that is going on at a few resorts.
Whistler/Blackcomb Resort is installing a "Peak-to-Peak" chair. If you have skied or ridden there before, you have to be itching to go back because it can take up to an hour to get from Whistler Peak to Blackcomb Peak. You have to cruise all the way down and then ride all the way up the other mountain. Well no more! Now you simply hop on and a few minutes later, you are on a completely different mountain with terrain galore! Pretty impressive if you ask me. Sounds like they are really ramping up for the 2010 Olympics.
Jackson Hole has just completed the New Tram. If you are unfamiliar with what's going on there, they tore down the old tram that used to take you to the peak and went without one last season during construction. Visitors to the Tetons have been salivating all year to ride the new tram, which is roomier, carries more passengers and gets you up the hill faster. Jackson has always been known for its patented red people mover. It is definitely a don't miss this year.
No matter where you are going, it should be awesome this year. Just make sure you pack your snorkel for those really big powder days!
